I say Tomato; you say tomahto (Tiferes Part VI)

People often choose friends who are different, often opposites on some character markers. I think the phrase “Opposites attract” usually overstates the case. Many friends have plenty in common with each other, and many people have plenty in common with their spouses.

Yet on character, there is the tendency people have to search for people who compliment them by providing strengths to their weaknesses. And sadly, it can work the other way where compassionate and caring people are motivated to care for people who are cruel and careless, with unpleasant results.

Our task in achieving Tiferes is to foster those relationships that promote the right balance.
