#Pre-Shabbos Warmup: The Promise of Failure (Vayeilech)

Maybe by way of consolation prize, this Shabbos between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur has the shortest parsha of the year: 30 verses. But it’s a strong and crushing 30 lines.

The short and bitter parsha consists of God saying that the Jews would fail after Moshe’s death; followed by Moshe explaining that the Jews would fail after his death, with the added smackdown,

“You were such failures during my lifetime that I can only imagine how much worse it will be after I’m dead!”
