Acceptance of anything that comes my way, or that has come my way, is one of the most important ingredients of a happy life. It is also essential in the field of teshuva. Sometimes, when I speak to people and ask them how they would like to see next year be different, there are a couple of directions that conversation then goes. One road, with those who are less self-aware, involves their vision of hoping things improve by having all the trouble-people in their lives change, having their bosses get transferred etc. Real teshuva has to start by accepting that this likely won’t happen.
