#BlogElul Day 4: Understand

There are many particulars in Jewish observance that are not fully understood by those who do them. And that’s fine, much of the time.  However, that list of particulars should shrink over time.  Every so often, I come across an insight in a Sefer on an item I had been wondering about for a long time.  I cherish that new piece of understanding now, every time I do that mitzvah.  I know of a very distinguished Rav who has compiled a list of 1600 questions he’s asked over the course of a lifetime of Torah study. Those questions, honestly asked, not out of cynicism or snark, have broadened his understanding of Torah.
